How to Make a Strong Impact in Your First 60 Days at a New Job

If you’re serious about leveling up at work, you’re in the right place. I kicked off a weekly series and I am all about delivering actionable insights to help you make a real impact from day one in your new workplace remember, if you’re ready to go deeper, our signature workshop on Human Skills, Soft Power, and Power Skills is where the magic happens. Don’t miss out. The coconut Worklab helps your continuous learning to help you win at work. In 2024 work goes beyond the office

I had an eye-opening chat recently, with Orimolade Oluwamuyemi A. and I’m bringing the best bits straight to you. Here’s how to approach those critical first few weeks in a new role:

  1. Own Your Feedback Let’s be real—the first six months are your proving ground. People are watching to see how you handle the pressure. So, when feedback comes your way (and it will), take it head-on. Don’t be afraid to stumble; how you bounce back is what truly matters.

  2. Know Your Purpose Get clear on why you were brought in. Were you hired as a problem solver or to learn the ropes?

  3. Stakeholder Mapping Success isn’t just about what you do—it’s about who you connect with. Nail down these four types of stakeholders find them and manage them

  • High Authority, High Influencer: These are your key decision-makers. Build those bridges.

  • High Authority, Low Influencer: Keep them informed, but don’t overwhelm them.

  • Low Authority, High Influencer: These folks can be your biggest champions. Win them over.

  • Low Authority, Low Influencer: Manage expectations and make sure they’re aligned with the bigger picture.

Here’s your task—grab your notes and write down the names of your key stakeholders. Start plotting out how you’re going to manage those relationships.

This isn’t just busy work; it’s your playbook for success.
